In the international airport of Tashkent, a new cargo terminal with an area of 5.2 hectares and a capacity of 120 thousand tons per year will be constructed, as announced by the press service of Uzbekistan Airports.

Currently, the design work for the cargo terminal has been completed, and the construction will be carried out in two stages.

During the first stage, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, a new cargo terminal covering an area of 8000 square meters will be launched, including refrigerated and frozen chambers spanning 500 square meters. Additionally, a new administrative building covering an area of 3000 square meters will be constructed for staff and representatives of importers and exporters.

On the second stage, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025, a new cargo warehouse covering an area of 12 thousand square meters will be built, including modern refrigerated and frozen rooms with different temperature regimes totaling 1000 square meters.

The buildings and structures of the current cargo terminal were constructed between 1994 and 2000. It comprises "about 20 outdated small and medium-sized warehouse and administrative premises with a total area of approximately 3 hectares," noted the company.

According to Uzbekistan Airports Cargo, the current capacity of the cargo terminal is effectively 30 thousand tons per year. However, it is forecasted that cargo and mail handling will reach approximately 67 thousand tons in 2024.

"All of this indicates the urgent need for expansion and modernization of the cargo complex. The new terminal will be equipped with modern facilities, allowing for a reduction in cargo handling time and providing airlines with service quality in line with globally accepted standards," stated the company.

On April 16, the reconstruction project of the capital's airport, including the construction of a new cargo terminal, was presented to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Currently, the reconstruction and expansion of the departure terminal are ongoing. Upon completion of the works, the capacity will increase from 1200 to 2400 passengers per hour. As previously reported, access to the departure hall of Tashkent airport will only be from the first floor, and the former overpass will become part of the building.
