Naman City Court Sentences Two Residents for Attempting to Smuggle Gold

The Naman City Court on criminal cases has issued a verdict against two local residents who tried to illegally export gold from Uzbekistan to India for sale. This was reported by the SGB press service.

During an operation carried out by the State Security Service in the Namangan region and customs officials on July 24, 2023, a Cobalt car traveling from Namangan to Tashkent was stopped and inspected. A passenger, K. N., a 46-year-old resident of Namangan, was found with a semi-processed gold chain.

In the Pap district, a Lacetti car traveling in the same direction was stopped and searched. A passenger, G. O., a 33-year-old resident of Namangan, was found with 29 semi-processed gold ornaments in the form of chains. It was revealed that G. O. was purchasing gold in large quantities from unknown individuals and making chains for further processing by jewelers.

Meanwhile, K. N. planned to bypass customs control at Tashkent airport and export the gold jewelry for sale in India. According to expert opinion, the weight of the 30 gold items was 1 kg 516 g, with a total value of 1 billion 46 million sums.

The criminal case against G. O. and K. N. was pursued under part "a" of article 182 through article 25 (Preparation for violation of customs legislation on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. The Naman City Court on criminal cases sentenced G. O. to 3 years and K. N. to 2 years of imprisonment.
