The deputies of the Tashkent region have approved the transfer of a part of the region's territory to the "New Tashkent" district. The regional council made this decision on March 13.

A total of 19,729.41 hectares of land will be allocated for the construction of New Tashkent, which is 8.51 hectares more than initially planned, in the Yukorichirchik (17,323.31 hectares instead of 17,314.8 hectares) and Urtachirchik (2,406 hectares) districts of the Tashkent region.

These areas will become part of the 13th district of the capital - New Tashkent, incorporating 33 mahallas from the Yukorichirchik district (20 completely, 13 partially) and 7 mahallas from the Urtachirchik district (4 completely and 3 partially). The lands will be transferred without changing their current categories of land use.

The changes will come into effect after the resolution of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis is adopted.

The project of the general plan of Tashkent, which includes the construction of "New Tashkent" to the east of the capital between the Chirchik and Karasu rivers, has been detailed by "Gazeta.uz". It will cover an area of 20,000 hectares and is designed to accommodate 500,000 people. The district will host administrative buildings, including the Presidential Administration, government offices, ministries, universities, and other facilities.

However, only 6,000 hectares are planned to be developed by 2045. Based on these calculations, prospective areas for development and construction have been outlined, along with the main road schemes connecting the capital to the new district.

In March 2023, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone marking the start of construction of "New Tashkent". Last year in September, the head of state approved the unified project of Tashkent and New Tashkent, developed by the British company Cross Works.

"We call it New Tashkent, but tomorrow it should renew and revive the old Tashkent. They should become one blood, one artery," said the head of the construction department, Davronjon Adilov.

The President emphasized the importance of starting the New Tashkent project as in five years, living in the capital will be "impossible".
