The Statistics Agency under the President of Uzbekistan has been tasked with organizing a population census in 2025-2026, as outlined in the roadmap for deepening reforms in official statistics approved by the head of state on March 5.
Throughout 2024, the agency is set to continue preparations for the census. This includes developing videos, banners, flyers, and brochures to promote and explain the census to the general population. The agency will also enhance the census questionnaires based on the 2021 pilot census results and recommendations from international experts.
Furthermore, the agency is expected to improve the "Population Census" information system based on international experience and expert recommendations, acquire a license for the STATA software package, and create layouts for presenting the census results. A census organization plan is also to be developed.
The census itself is scheduled to take place in 2025-2026, with the results expected to be prepared and published in 2026-2027. Additionally, by the end of 2025, the Statistics Agency must develop methodological documents for the preparation and conduct of an agricultural census. This research reflects the state of the country's agricultural sector, including land sizes, ownership, land use types, irrigation, livestock, workforce, and other agricultural resources.
The regulatory document for conducting the agricultural census is planned to be adopted in 2027-2028.
It has been 34 years since the last population census was conducted in Uzbekistan. Due to the pandemic, it was postponed from 2022 to November 2023, but funding for the event has still not been allocated.
The importance of a population census, the benefits it brings to countries, and the risks associated with prolonged delays were discussed by "Gazeta.uz".
