Ex-Minister Refuses to Provide Phone Password in Murder Trial

Today, on April 18, the trial of Kuandyk Bishimbayev continued in court. The prosecution requested the six-digit code to unlock the gadget for examination, but the defendant refused. Bishimbayev stated he would only provide the password to his lawyer, citing concerns about personal content on his phone.

The ex-minister was arrested on November 9, 2023, for the suspected murder of his wife. The investigation concluded on January 8, 2024, with additional charges of "Torture" alongside "Murder with particular cruelty." Witnesses, including a paramedic and a patrol officer, testified on April 8. The victim's lawyer revealed the cause of death on April 4. Bishimbayev apologized to the victim's family in court on April 1, denying intentional murder. Witnesses from the night of the incident and a forensic expert testified on April 9. The second suspect, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, shared his version of events on April 11.
