Suspects Detained in Robbery Attack on Foreign Citizens in Bishkek Hostel

Suspects detained in a robbery attack on foreign citizens at a hostel on Ogonbaev Street in Bishkek. The Ministry of Internal Affairs press service reported the incident.

According to the information provided, on the night of May 13, around 02:00, a group of guys in the Vostok-5 residential area approached foreign students, asked them for cigarettes, and started to harass them, questioning why they were smoking there.

"Subsequently, one of the guys struck the foreign students, who started to run away. They managed to reach their place of residence - the hostel on Ogonbaev Street. A group of unknown guys, chasing the foreign students, followed them into the hostel. There, using force against the residing foreign citizens, they took money and belongings. After facing physical resistance from the residents, they fled the scene," the department reported.

A criminal case under Article 207 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic was initiated at the Department of Internal Affairs of the Sverdlovsk district. During the investigation, the identities of those who committed the robbery at the hostel were established. They were identified as M.N., born in 2006, Sh.T., born in 2005, and N.B., born in 2005.

Following investigative actions under Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on suspicion of committing a crime, the suspects were detained and placed in a temporary detention facility.

The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.

It is worth noting that the spontaneous protest against foreigners that began on the evening of May 17 in Bishkek only concluded in the early hours of May 18. The police managed to negotiate with the participants of the protest, and they opened Chui Avenue, dispersing shortly after. According to the Ministry of Health, 41 people were injured during the protests.

Regarding the hostel fight on May 13, which was one of the reasons for the protests, law enforcement officers detained four Egyptian citizens. A criminal case was initiated under the article "Hooliganism" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. They were released on house arrest for the duration of the investigation.
