Law enforcement officers have detained two young men - active participants in the riots at a dormitory for foreign students in Bishkek. This was reported by the press service of the capital's Main Directorate of Internal Affairs.

"On May 18, 2024, at around 01:00, unknown individuals broke into the dormitory located on 7 April Street, where they inflicted bodily harm on foreigners and caused material damage by destroying their property. The investigative department of the Bishkek Main Directorate of Internal Affairs initiated a criminal case under the article (mass riots) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. A 21-year-old and a 25-year-old guy have been detained and placed in the Temporary Detention Facility," the statement said.

It is worth reminding that the spontaneous protest against foreigners, which began on the evening of May 17 in Bishkek, only ended in the early hours of May 18. The police managed to negotiate with the participants of the rally, and they opened Chui Avenue, after which they dispersed.

Following the fight on May 13 at a hostel, which became one of the reasons for the protests, law enforcement officers detained four citizens of Egypt. A criminal case has been initiated under the article "Hooliganism" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
