Trial of Former Minister Accused of Murdering Wife Continues in Astana

The trial of former Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, accused of the brutal murder of his wife Saltanat Nukenova, is ongoing in Astana today, April 22, 2024. The proceedings are being broadcast online by the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan.

The case of the former minister is being heard in the Specialized Inter-District Court for Criminal Cases of the capital, with Judge Aizhan Kulbayeva presiding. Kuandyk Bishimbayev and his brother, the director of "Gastrocenter" Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov, are on trial.

During the previous court session on April 18, 2024, Kuandyk Bishimbayev refused to provide the court with the password to his phone for investigation, citing the presence of other private information on the device. Judge Aizhan Kulbayeva informed the participants that the judicial investigation is nearing its conclusion and requested all supplementary materials to be submitted by April 22-23 to allow time for preparation for legal arguments.
