On April 23, the General Prosecutor's Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, extradited a suspect from Russia for committing large-scale fraud. Between 2020 and 2023, as the head of a construction company, he stole over 4.3 billion tenge from more than 200 homebuyers in Astana.
The suspect went into hiding after the crime and was later arrested in Russia. The main accomplices were also detained last year. The General Prosecutor's Office stated that the punishment for this crime could result in 5 to 10 years of imprisonment with property confiscation. Additionally, on April 11, a leader of the criminal group was also extradited to Kazakhstan from Azerbaijan.
