in Crime / Kazakhstan - by

A coach from a youth sports school in the Akmolinsk region was recently convicted of drug trafficking. According to the regional court, the coach was apprehended while transporting narcotics from Astana to be sold in the Arshaly district. Upon searching his car, authorities found four packages of hashish weighing over 39 kg in total.

The court stated that the coach had engaged in the illegal acquisition, possession, and transportation of drugs on a large scale for further distribution. The sentencing took into account mitigating circumstances such as the presence of the coach's minor children and the absence of aggravating factors.

The man was sentenced to 10 years in prison, although the verdict has not yet come into legal force. In a separate case in March 2024, a jury found a Kazakh man guilty of drug manufacturing and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
