in Crime / Kazakhstan - by

The Department of the National Security Committee (KNB) of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Aktobe region in February 2024 eliminated an international channel for drug supplies from abroad to Kazakhstan using postal shipments.

This information was made public today, on April 30, in a release published on the committee's website. According to the statement, a local resident was detained at the Kazpost office upon receiving a package containing a hidden compartment with cannabis drugs weighing over 500 grams. In April of this year, an operation was carried out to apprehend a resident of Aktobe, from whom over 2.5 kg of the psychotropic substance "mephedrone" was seized, equivalent to around 10 thousand doses.

During the operational development, evidence was documented of the suspect's coercion to sell drugs to residents of the region through threats of physical violence. The detained individual had intentions to establish an extensive network for distributing psychotropic substances in the region. The individuals involved have been remanded in custody with the court's authorization, and pre-trial investigations are ongoing.

The press service of the KNB of the Republic of Kazakhstan highlighted that, in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, certain information is not subject to disclosure.
