Deputy Chief of the Martuk District Police Department in the Aktobe Region has been sentenced for abuse of power, aiming to gain benefits for himself. The criminal case against E. was reviewed by the Martuk District Court.

The court's verdict imposed a punishment of five years and six months of imprisonment with a lifelong prohibition on holding positions in the civil service, along with stripping the special rank of police major from E., as informed by the press service of the Martuk District Court on May 2, 2024.

Furthermore, a separate resolution has been issued to the Chief of the Aktobe Region Police Department regarding law violations discovered in the case.

The court found that E., while serving as the Deputy Chief of the Martuk District Police Department in the Aktobe Region, exceeded his authority in August 2020 by unlawfully transferring 611,960 packs of untaxed cigarettes of various assortments to the LLC "A" as material evidence in a criminal case. The department did not receive any funds from the sale of tobacco products by LLC "A". As a result, the state incurred significant material damage amounting to 243 million tenge.

The defendant denied guilt and explained that he handed over the cigarettes to LLC "A" for further distribution, without any selfish motives. The prosecutor, however, requested the court to find E. guilty under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and sentence him to seven years of imprisonment with the deprivation of the special rank of police major.

On April 30, 2024, it was reported that a verdict was reached for the former Chief of the Taldykorgan Police Department, Maratkushtybaev. For details on his charges and the sentence he received, refer to the respective source.
