Trial of Former Minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev for Alleged Murder Continues in Astana

In Astana on May 4, 2024, the trial of the former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev continues, who is accused of the particularly cruel murder of his civil wife Saltanat Nukenova, as reported.

On May 3, 2024, the court heard arguments from both sides. Erlan Gazymzhanov, the lawyer, spoke in court but received several remarks from the judge. He continued his speech by stating that Bishimbayev had no motive to kill Nukenova. According to him, the indictment also does not provide an answer to this question. Following him, Bishimbayev's defender, Leila Ramazanova, presented her defense.

The mother of the defendant, Almira Nurlibekova, apologized to the relatives of Saltanat Nukenova. She mentioned that the Almighty had prepared a great trial for both their family and Saltanat's family. Additionally, Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov's lawyer voiced his position during the arguments. Lawyer Gaziz Yntikbayev noted that his client found himself in the center of tragic events involuntarily.

Kuandyk Bishimbayev himself stated that he cannot take responsibility for having the intention to kill Saltanat Nukenova.

Today, on May 4, 2024, the court moved on to the second part of the legal arguments. This part will proceed without jurors and representatives of the media. The discussions will focus on matters that are not within the competence of the jurors.
