Verdict Announced for Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov in Saltanat Nukenova Murder Case

In the Specialized Interdistrict Court for Criminal Cases of Astana today, on May 13, 2024, the verdict was announced for Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov – the cousin of Kuandyk Bishimbayev, in the case of the murder of Saltanat Nukenova. He is accused of concealing the crime.

The verdict in the criminal case against Bishimbayev and Bayzhanov was announced by Judge Aizhan Kulbayeva.

"To find Bakhytzhan Amirzhanovich Bayzhanov guilty of committing a criminal offense under Article 432 ("Concealment of a Crime" – Ed.) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and sentence him to four years of imprisonment. The serving of Bayzhanov's imprisonment is to be carried out in a medium-security correctional facility. The time spent in custody by Bayzhanov from November 11, 2023, until the verdict enters into legal force shall be counted towards the term of imprisonment at a rate of one day for one and a half days," the judge read.

The pre-trial detention measure for Bishimbayev and Bayzhanov remains the same until the verdict enters into legal force.

The court also ruled to recover:

- From Bishimbayev, procedural costs for conducting judicial examinations in the amount of 2,306,382 tenge;

- From Bayzhanov, a sum of 3324 tenge;

- From Bishimbayev, a compulsory payment of 30 Monthly Calculation Indexes (MCI) to the Compensation Fund for Victims in the amount of 103,500 tenge;

- From Bayzhanov, a sum of 20 MCI amounting to 69,000 tenge.

It was previously reported that Kuandyk Bishimbayev was sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment.
