Judge Almа Esymova, the media coordinator, revealed during a press conference after the court process on May 13 when Kuandyk Bishimbayev could apply for parole.
According to the judge, for the particularly grave crime committed by Kuandyk Bishimbayev, he can apply for parole after serving 2/3 of the sentence. "This will be in about 16 years, around 2039-2040. The opinion of the victim is taken into account when reviewing the material, but only in 2039 or 2040 will he (Bishimbayev) have the right to apply. If the verdict becomes legally binding," added Alma Esymova.
She also noted that the law specifies that the opinion of the victims is taken into account when considering parole, while all other aspects fall under the jurisdiction of the court that will review the case. "The decision on parole will be made taking into account all the circumstances of the case. It is too early to talk about it now as the verdict has not yet become legally binding. The law states that the opinion of the victims is considered when reviewing the parole issue," stated Alma Esymova.
Judge Seifulla Tasymbetov mentioned that his behavior, characteristics, and participation in activities throughout the period of serving the sentence will be taken into consideration.
