Changes in Refugee Status Application Process in Kazakhstan

in Society / Kazakhstan - by

A recent order by the Acting Minister of Labor and Social Protection introduces amendments to the Rules for registration and consideration of applications for refugee status. Individuals seeking asylum will now undergo mandatory medical examination and interviews. Failure to attend scheduled appointments may result in notifications being sent to the applicant's address.

The order also outlines procedures for extending application review periods and notifying applicants of decisions within specific time frames. Additionally, individuals granted refugee status will be required to undergo fingerprinting. Those intending to leave the country during the application process will be informed of their right to withdraw their application. The order, effective from April 12, 2024, aims to streamline the refugee status determination process in Kazakhstan.
