The trial of former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev, accused of brutally murdering his civilian wife Saltanat Nukenova, continues in Astana. Two witnesses, an emergency doctor and a patrol police officer, testified today.

The first witness, Nurlan Mukhambetov, an emergency medical technician, described the scene upon arriving at the BAU restaurant. Visible injuries were observed on the body, and despite resuscitation efforts, the patient was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Upon receiving the call about a domestic violence incident resulting in the death of a woman, the police arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect. Bishimbayev was then taken for evaluation and later transferred to the district police department.

The court also reviewed a call to the emergency medical station and watched a video recording from the senior lieutenant Marchenko's badge. Bishimbayev was arrested on November 9, 2023, for the alleged murder of his wife. The investigation concluded on January 8, 2024, revealing additional charges of torture alongside the murder.

During preliminary hearings on March 11, the prosecution presented their case, followed by Bishimbayev's defense. The main trial commenced on March 27, with testimonies from witnesses, including Saltanat Nukenova's brother. Bishimbayev also addressed the court on April 1, sharing his version of the events leading to his wife's death.

On April 3, Bishimbayev continued to present his account of the events, while on April 4, the victim's lawyer disclosed the cause of Saltanat Nukenova's death. The trial continues to unfold, shedding light on the tragic incident that has captured the nation's attention.
