Public Discussion on Waste Collection Tariffs Underway in Almaty

in Society / Kazakhstan - by

The approval of tariffs for solid household waste collection, transportation, sorting, and disposal in Almaty is currently open for public discussion. The current waste collection tariff stands at 553.04 tenge, covering services from waste collection to transportation, sorting, extraction of recyclable fractions, transport of non-utilizable fractions, and waste disposal at landfills.

The document highlights a threefold increase in diesel fuel costs and rising expenses for spare parts from 2017 to 2023. The waste collection tariff has not been revised during this period. The development of new waste accumulation norms prompted an update of waste collection tariffs.

Previously, the environmental prosecutor's office in the Zhetysu region successfully reduced waste collection tariffs in Tekeli and in the Panfilov, Karatal, Aksu, and Sarkand districts. Prosecutors found that authorities had failed to provide tariffs for approval by the local councils for over three years.
