Almaty residents have demanded the renovation of neglected bomb shelters following recent earthquakes. According to KTK channel, residents complained that the shelters are currently inaccessible.
Almaty residents are questioning why neither ordinary citizens nor activists have access to the bomb shelters. An activist revealed that in the Bostandyk district alone, there are four underground shelters, two of which are occupied by sports complexes. The problem became particularly noticeable after a series of earthquakes and landslides. Activists believe that the shelters could serve as a refuge for Almaty residents during disasters.
According to the Almaty city akim (mayor), many shelters have been privatized and efforts are being made to reclaim them for the city. The akim stated that a special program has been prepared to allocate funds for the modernization and reconstruction of the shelters.
