Kazakhstan's project on the protection of its intangible cultural heritage has received funding from the UNESCO International Fund for the first time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan announced that the decision was made on March 5th at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
During the Bureau meeting of the nineteenth session, four project funding applications under the UNESCO Fund for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage were reviewed and supported. Kazakhstan has been allocated $99,600 for the preparation of further updates to the national list of intangible cultural heritage and its protection.
It is noteworthy that Kazakhstan has utilized this international assistance mechanism from UNESCO for the first time. Projects from Hungary, Côte d'Ivoire, and Uganda also received support.
Kazakhstan's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Askar Abdrakhmanov, expressed gratitude to the intergovernmental organization for the trust placed in Kazakhstan and assured the country's commitment to continue contributing to the safeguarding of humanity's living heritage both domestically and internationally.
Earlier this year, the centenary of Berdibek Sokpakbaev was included in UNESCO's calendar of significant dates.
