The judicial process against the writer and public figure Olzhobay Shakir has entered its final stage.
Today, on May 7th, the arguments of the parties concluded in the Alamadin District Court of the Chui Region.
The prosecution demands to find Olzhobay Shakir guilty on all counts of the charges and sentence him to seven years of imprisonment.
It is worth noting that Olzhobay Shakir was detained in August 2023 and has been in custody since then. He is accused of "inciting active disobedience to the lawful demands of the authorities and mass disorder." Prior to his arrest, the writer spoke out against the transfer of four resorts on Lake Issyk-Kul to Uzbekistan.
Olzhobay Shakir's defense insists that there is a lack of evidence in the case materials to render a guilty verdict. In particular, commenting on the course of the trial to Radio Azattyk, lawyer Bakyt Avtandil Uulu pointed out that the experts' conclusion in the case is based on irrelevant video footage. According to the writer's defense, the verdict should be acquittal.
The next hearing is scheduled for May 14th. During this session, Olzhobay Shakir will make his final statement, after which the verdict will be delivered.
