The Pervomaysky District Court of Bishkek has released activist Askat Zhetigen under a travel ban agreement, as confirmed by the court's press service. The court rejected the investigator's request to detain Zhetigen and instead imposed a travel ban on him until the investigation is completed.
Zhetigen, who was detained by the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) for criticizing the government, expressed to the media before the court session that he does not consider his words to be a crime. He also stated that he tried to convey his thoughts politely on several occasions.
It is important to note that Zhetigen was brought from Naryn to Bishkek by GKNB officers and placed in a temporary detention facility for 48 hours. The decision to release him under a travel ban marks a significant development in his case, providing some relief to his supporters and human rights advocates.
