President Sadyr Japarov congratulated Kyrgyzstanis on the National Headwear Day - the ak kalpak. The president's press service stated that the nation's preservation and further development are directly linked to language, values, history, and culture.
"There is no doubt that our national clothing, starting with the ak kalpak, reflecting the image of a mountain summit, is the oldest, proudest, most important, and most comfortable element of Kyrgyz culture. Even in today's era of globalization, it is impossible to imagine a Kyrgyz child without an ak kalpak," said Sadyr Japarov.
He emphasized that the future will judge us based on our attitude towards national values, traditions, and history, and therefore the current generation is obliged to continue the great tradition of their ancestors.
This holiday has been celebrated in the country since 2011 at the initiative of the film director, Yrysbek Jabirov. In 2019, the ak kalpak was inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as "Traditional ways of making male headwear of the Kyrgyz people and the culture of wearing them."
