Systematic Abuse of a 13-Year-Old Girl in Sokuluk: Ombudsman's Office Reports

in Society / Kyrgyzstan - by

In the town of Sokuluk, a 13-year-old girl was subjected to systematic abuse for almost a year. The parents of the girl sought protection for their minor child, as law enforcement authorities did not take action to hold the culprits accountable.

According to the mother, nine boys aged 19-22 had been abusing her daughter since April 2023, using threats and blackmail to silence her. The girl attempted suicide three times during this period. In January of this year, she went missing for 20 days and upon being found, she revealed the horrors she had endured to a representative of the ombudsman.

Despite the victims' accounts, the Sokuluk District Police Department has not taken steps to bring the perpetrators to justice. The ordeal began in April of the previous year when a 20-year-old man deceived the girl, raped her, and threatened her with further assault if she spoke out.

The girl's mother described the nightmare her daughter faced, being passed between nine boys who threatened and systematically abused her. The girl is now receiving medical care due to her severe psychological state.

Relatives of the boys have been harassing the girl's family and making threats. The younger daughter in the family is also facing bullying at school due to rumors spread by a relative of one of the culprits.

The girl's parents are uncertain if a criminal case has been opened and are pleading for justice. The ombudsman's office is taking action to ensure the girl's safety and provide legal assistance, as well as psychological support for the victim and her family.
