March for Gender Rights to Take Place in Bishkek on International Women's Day

In Bishkek, a march for gender rights is set to take place on International Women's Day, as announced by the organizers on social media. The gathering point is the square near the monument to Urkue Salieva, from where participants will walk along Frunze Street to the Gorky monument square. This route was chosen due to the ban imposed in March 2022 on holding rallies and events in downtown Bishkek.

It is worth noting that in Bishkek and other cities, March 8th is marked annually with a march for women's rights and against violence.

Recalling the events of March 8, 2020, during a feminist march, unknown individuals attacked the participants. The police arrived at the scene, but instead of apprehending the provocateurs, they detained the participants, issuing fines and accusing them of disturbing public order. The activists took the case to court, seeking justice. In February 2021, the Bishkek City Court overturned the fine imposed on one of the detained participants of the March for Women's Rights on March 8, 2020. In the following years, peaceful actions took place without incidents.
