Scientific Researchers in Kyrgyzstan Earn Nearly Three Times Less Than in Tajikistan

During a parliamentary committee meeting on the fuel and energy complex, subsoil use, and industrial policy, the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Kanatbek Abdrakhmatov, revealed that salaries of scientific researchers in Kyrgyzstan are nearly three times lower than those in Tajikistan.

Abdrakhmatov emphasized that science in Kyrgyzstan has always been funded on a residual basis, lacking attention and adequate financial support. Last year, the budget of the National Academy of Sciences amounted to 499 million soms, with an average salary for a scientific researcher being 17,000 soms. In comparison, Tajikistan's researchers earn 45,000 soms, almost three times more, while in Uzbekistan, the figure is 60,000 soms.

This disparity in salaries poses challenges for conducting in-depth research due to insufficient funding. The committee meeting focused on reviewing the National Academy of Sciences' performance in the mining, energy, and industrial sectors.
