Young Reanimatologists-Anesthesiologists Resign in Issyk-Kul Regional Hospital

in Society / Kyrgyzstan - by

Five young reanimatologists-anesthesiologists have resigned from the Issyk-Kul Regional Hospital, citing inadequate salaries and excessive workloads. According to Bermet Baryktabasova, head of the Independent Medical Union, these doctors work tirelessly, often around the clock, without a break, for 25 days a month.

Following their resignation, all surgeries and procedures were canceled due to a shortage of staff. The Ministry of Health officials are trying to fill the gap with temporary specialists, but the issue remains unresolved. It is clear that these temporary replacements will not stay long due to the strenuous work conditions.

Coordinator Beyshkan Zhaylymyshova of the Ministry of Health in Issyk-Kul commented on the situation, stating that the young specialists submitted their resignation in February. Despite efforts to explain the financial situation and address their concerns, the doctors insisted on resigning due to unsatisfactory salaries.

Zhaylymyshova noted that these young specialists, in their first year of work, did not receive additional payments for their category or years of service. The average salary for medical workers in the region is around 35,000 soms after taxes, and the hospital cannot exceed legal limits.

While one reanimatologist was transferred from the National Hospital in Karakol, another remained in Issyk-Kul Hospital. The head of the cardiology department, also an anesthesiologist, was given additional responsibilities. Despite the resignations, operations were not halted, with the help of assistant doctors.

The five doctors who resigned were previously residents at the hospital, receiving free accommodation and bonuses from the regional administration. The hospital is working to overcome the challenges posed by the resignations and ensure continuity in patient care.
