Court Upholds Sentence for Man Convicted of Torturing His Ex-Wife in Kyrgyzstan

Today, the Chui Regional Court considered the appeal of Azamat Estebesov, accused of torturing his ex-wife Asel Nogoybayeva. The lawyer of the victim, Indira Sautova, reported that the main sentence of 20 years in prison remained unchanged.

Additionally, for one episode, he was found guilty and fined 500 calculation indicators, equivalent to 50,000 soms. In total, he must pay a fine of 120,000 soms to the state.

It is worth noting that on February 26, the Sokuluk District Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal in court regarding Asel Nogoybayeva, whose ex-husband had cut off her ears and nose.

Recall that on September 20, 2023, Asel Nogoybayeva, 36, was admitted to the hospital with stab wounds. Her ex-husband, Azamat Estebesov, had cut off her ears and nose and mutilated her body. The incident was registered under Article 130 "Infliction of Grievous Bodily Harm" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, and a criminal case was initiated.

The family of Asel Nogoybayeva and activists had requested a life sentence for her ex-husband.

On January 26, the Sokuluk District Court sentenced Azamat Estebesov to 20 years in prison. According to the court's decision, the defendant must pay Asel Nogoybayeva 2 million soms and an additional 80,000 soms to the state as a fine.
