As of March 5, Kyrgyzstan has reported 4,855 cases of measles, with the majority of the affected individuals being children under five years old. Specifically, there are 1,732 cases in children aged one to four years (36%) and 1,684 cases in children under one year old (35%).
The virus continues to circulate actively in Bishkek, Chui, Osh, and Jalal-Abad regions. The main reason for the increase in measles cases is the high number of refusals for routine measles and rubella immunization among both children and adults.
In response to the outbreak, planned immunization efforts have been intensified across the country. Vaccination is being carried out among individuals who have been in contact with measles patients, and teachers and healthcare workers are being trained in the capital and regions of the country.
According to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, in 2023, there have been 7,046 confirmed cases of measles and 9 fatalities, including 8 children aged 1 to 18 years and 1 infant (five months old).
