In 2023, 35 thousand children were born out of wedlock in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the head of the Department of Demographic Statistics of the National Statistical Committee, Gulhumar Abdullaeva, during a meeting of the parliamentary faction "Alliance".
"It can be assumed that some were born in a religious marriage (nika)," she said.
Gulhumar Abdullaeva also added that according to the Ministry of Digital Development, last year 45.5 thousand marriages were registered, while the number of divorces amounted to 12.5 thousand.
