A project involving the introduction of diagonal crosswalks and "waffle" markings was discussed at a meeting in the Bishkekglavarchitectura. The information was confirmed by the press service of the municipal enterprise.
The "waffle" markings are planned to be applied at regulated intersections. The application of this type of marking is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams and congestion at the busiest intersections.
According to Bishkekglavarchitectura, the "waffle" markings are necessary to clearly indicate the area where vehicles are not allowed to enter if there is congestion ahead. Drivers are prohibited from moving forward towards the intersection and stopping on the "waffle," thus obstructing vehicles moving in a perpendicular direction.
The installation of diagonal pedestrian crossings is aimed at reducing crossing time, alleviating traffic jams and congestion, and allowing for a more rational use of traffic lights.
The main distinctive feature of a diagonal pedestrian crossing is the temporary halt of all vehicle traffic at the intersection, giving all pedestrians the opportunity to cross in all directions, including diagonally.
