Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek City Hall Refutes Claims of Bus Drivers Failing Test

in Society / Kyrgyzstan - by

Bishkek City Hall has denied reports stating that half of the bus drivers failed a recent test. The municipal enterprise "Bishkek Passenger Motor Transport Enterprise" is conducting driver testing to prevent road accidents involving public transport. Out of 1,439 drivers, 226 have taken the exams so far, with testing scheduled daily.

From February 9 to March 10, 222 candidates arrived for employment at BPMTA and took the exams on traffic rules. 98 of them passed and are in the process of submitting job applications. 124 potential drivers have been sent for retesting and are not allowed to operate until they pass.

Starting this year, public transport drivers will undergo exams twice annually to confirm their knowledge of traffic rules. A special safety classroom with necessary equipment has been established for this purpose. Drivers failing the exam three times will have their driving licenses revoked by BPMTA and reported to the relevant authorities.
