Renowned Kyrgyz Opera Singer Talgarbek Zhakshylykov Passes Away

The Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater announced the passing of the distinguished opera singer and People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Talgarbek Zhakshylykov. Born on October 23, 1964, Zhakshylykov showed musical talent from a young age, leading him to pursue vocal arts at the Kyrgyz State Institute of Arts. Under the guidance of experienced educators and People's Artists of the Kyrgyz Republic Marlen Temirbekov and Vladimir Mukovnikov, he honed his vocal skills.

Zhakshylykov's rich baritone voice allowed him to master complex roles in operas such as "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi, "Eugene Onegin" by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and "The Barber of Seville" by Gioachino Rossini. He excelled in national repertoire performances, showcasing his talent in various operas. Zhakshylykov also performed concert pieces like Boris Godunov and Mephistopheles.

In 1996, Zhakshylykov fulfilled his dream by participating in a two-year internship in Italy through the presidential program "Cadres of the XXI Century," studying under renowned vocal coach Mario Melani. Upon his return, he actively contributed to Kyrgyzstan's cultural scene through performances, concerts, teaching, and international appearances.

Having sung over 40 roles in operas by foreign, Russian, and Kyrgyz composers, Zhakshylykov received prestigious accolades, including the title of People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2003 and the Abdylass Maldybaev Award in 2006. In his later years, he dedicated his time to mentoring students at the Kyrgyz National Conservatory, sharing his expertise generously. Zhakshylykov's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his artistry and passion for opera.
