Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet of Ministers to Modernize General Education System

in Society / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Cabinet of Ministers in Kyrgyzstan is set to adopt a resolution on the modernization of the structure of secondary education, as announced by a high-ranking official from the president's administration. The decision aims to modernize the structure and content of school education, enhance functional literacy and students' competencies by incorporating globally accepted educational trends, and adjusting the duration of education in the general school system.

The plan includes a phased transition to a 12-year education model and updating the educational programs for students. The shift to a 12-year education model, widely adopted in many developed countries, allows graduates to pursue further education abroad without losing an academic year compared to the current 11-year system in Kyrgyzstan.

The official highlighted that the new resolution will address existing issues and create a conducive educational environment to promote physical well-being and foster the moral and spiritual development of students. The reforms are deemed necessary as various aspects of the education system in Kyrgyzstan have remained unchanged since the Soviet era, failing to meet modern requirements and challenges.

The transition to a 12-year education model is expected to enhance the quality of education, better prepare students for contemporary realities, and increase their competitiveness in the job market. Furthermore, there will be a complete overhaul of curricula, textbooks, and teaching methodologies to align with the new system.
