Kyrgyzstan to Revamp Educational Curriculum with Focus on STEM Subjects and English Language

in Society / Kyrgyzstan - by

A high-ranking official from the president's administration in Kyrgyzstan has announced plans to overhaul the educational curriculum in the country. The emphasis will be on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), English language, and computer science. The development of the new curriculum will draw on the experiences of successful countries, particularly Singapore, with the methodology of Cambridge University as its foundation.

"We will not develop the educational plans and methodology on our own, we will closely cooperate with Singapore and study their experiences," the official stated. He also highlighted that the textbooks currently used by Kyrgyzstan's students do not meet international standards. "We are not teaching children logic, new skills, creative thinking, information processing, and knowledge acquisition. Therefore, new textbooks, methodologies, and reorientation of teachers will be necessary," he explained.

The transition is expected to take place over the course of two to three years.
