in Society / Kyrgyzstan - by

Members of the Cabinet of Ministers have approved the decision to transfer the small sports arena of the Dolon Omurzakov Stadium to the municipal ownership of the Bishkek Mayor's Office. The Cabinet's press service made the announcement, stating that the arena is being transferred to ensure its preservation, effective use, and to further develop sports and promote the health of the capital's residents.

On March 1st, the cafes "Arzu" and "Time Out" were demolished, with the municipality citing the action as necessary for the restoration of the small arena of the stadium. Specialists from the Bishkekglavarchitecture Municipal Enterprise had designed a conceptual project that includes sports halls, referee rooms, changing and coaching zones, administrative offices, and other facilities. However, social media users and Member of Parliament of the Jogorku Kenesh, Dastan Bekeshev, pointed out similarities between the conceptual design of the small arena of the Dolon Omurzakov Stadium planned for restoration by the Mayor's Office and the project of the Ice Sports Palace in Samara. In response, the Chief of Bishkekglavarchitecture, Urmat Karybaev, clarified that it was not plagiarism but a shared design concept.
