Customs officers in Sughd region recently detained a smuggler transporting over 2.7 tons of medicines from Kyrgyzstan. The incident occurred a month ago, but the Customs Service under the government of Tajikistan only reported it on their official page the day before yesterday.
During a customs check on March 20, a "Mercedes-Benz Sprinter" vehicle with license plate number 28-84 MK/02, belonging to a resident of Khujand named Mubindzhon Burkhanov, was stopped. Upon inspection, a variety of medicines produced in Russia were found, including "Clarithromycin CP," "Captopril," "Protocidim," "Metformin," and "Ciprofloxacin." It was revealed that the medicines were smuggled from Kyrgyzstan.
According to customs officials, the smuggler failed to provide the necessary documents to prove the legality of the transportation, indicating an attempt to evade customs control.
After analysis and examination by the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Headquarters, it was determined that the goods met quality standards but lacked the necessary conformity certificate. This led to the initiation of a criminal case against the smuggler under Article 289 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan - "Organization of Smuggling."
The total value of the cargo is estimated to be approximately between 654,000 to 732,000 somoni.
