The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirodjidin Muhriddin, and the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, David Cameron, signed an intergovernmental agreement on air communication between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom. This agreement will lay the foundation for the future opening of direct flights between Dushanbe and London, as reported by the Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation. Cameron began his tour of Central Asia from Tajikistan today and also met with the President of the Republic, Emomali Rahmon.
Rahmon emphasized the importance of the UK as a partner in Western Europe and highlighted Tajikistan's focus on developing and strengthening relations with the Kingdom. Cameron expressed satisfaction with the significant expansion of relations between Tajikistan and the UK and their promising prospects.
The parties discussed the political, economic, trade, cultural, and humanitarian spheres of the two countries' relations. The need for UK investments in Tajikistan's mining, metallurgical, light, food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural industries was recognized.
Both sides expressed interest in cooperation in the production of "green energy" and the transition to a "green economy," as well as in addressing water-climate issues and labor migration.
