Foreign citizens will not be able to work as taxi drivers in the Kursk region, announced the governor Roman Starovoit, as reported by Interfax.
"I have signed a resolution banning migrants from working as taxi drivers in the Kursk region. Prior to this, I conducted a survey among the region's residents. Over 42,000 people voted, with 82% supporting the ban. We will analyze the situation in other areas, but there are not many migrants in the Kursk region," wrote the head of the region in his Telegram channel on Thursday.
However, Starovoit noted that "everyone has the opportunity to obtain Russian citizenship in accordance with the law and continue working in any field."
On April 25, the governor conducted a survey in his Telegram channel regarding restrictions on migrants working as taxi drivers: 82% of respondents voted in favor, while 18% were against.
Following the terrorist attack at the "Crocus City Hall" concert hall near Moscow, which according to official reports was carried out by citizens of Tajikistan, xenophobic sentiments towards migrants have intensified in Russia.
Law enforcement agencies in various regions of the country have started conducting raids at the residences and workplaces of foreign workers, with thorough checks and selective admission of citizens of Tajikistan into Russia at the borders.
More than 10 Russian regions have imposed bans on migrant work, prohibiting them from working in over 35 sectors of economic activity.
