Tajikistan and Italy Strengthen Cooperation with Signing of New Documents

After official meetings and negotiations, Tajikistan and Italy have signed new documents of cooperation. President Emomali Rahmon's visit to Italy resulted in the signing of 7 new agreements. These include agreements on:

- Security cooperation

- Visa waivers for diplomatic passport holders

- Cultural and scientific collaboration programs

- Drug control cooperation

- Tourism development

- Environmental protection

- Cooperation program between the foreign ministries of the two countries

During the meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni, President Emomali Rahmon discussed expanding ties in political, economic, trade, cultural, humanitarian, and security fields. Both sides expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in various industries such as hydroenergy, light, food, metallurgical, mining, and chemical industries, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. The attraction of Italian capital for Tajikistan's industrial development was deemed beneficial for both countries.

Discussions also touched upon establishing direct flights and connections between the two countries in education and healthcare, including allocating quotas for Tajik citizens in Italian universities. Emomali Rahmon invited Giorgio Meloni to visit Tajikistan at a convenient time. Additionally, President Rahmon met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, emphasizing Italy as an important and reliable partner in Europe.

The negotiations covered a range of cooperation issues, including joint investment projects and the timely establishment of a Joint Trade Council. Ways to combat terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, illegal drug trafficking, and cybercrime were also discussed. Emomali Rahmon extended an invitation to Sergio Mattarella to visit Tajikistan officially.
