President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon Visits Vatican for Bilateral Cooperation

President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, paid an official visit to the Vatican today. An honor guard was lined up in the San Damaso courtyard. Pope Francis welcomed Emomali Rahmon in the building of the Holy See, as reported by the press service of the President of Tajikistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to strengthening fruitful cooperation. President of Tajikistan emphasized that all conditions for tolerance and coexistence of representatives of all religions have been created in Tajikistan.

It was noted that the Holy See, as a subject of the international system, plays an important role in global affairs. Its constant contribution to the implementation of the principles of peace, stability, tolerance, and harmony on the international stage is significant.

During the meeting, Emomali Rahmon and Pope Francis exchanged commemorative gifts. However, the specific gifts exchanged were not disclosed.

Later, the President of Tajikistan met with the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, as reported by the press service of the head of state. They discussed issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the beginning of a new phase in relations.

During the conversation, the parties also exchanged views on current issues on the global and regional agenda, including ensuring peace and stability.

Afterward, Emomali Rahmon visited the Vatican Museums, where he familiarized himself with the history and culture of the Vatican City-State, including works of art from various epochs.

The Vatican Museums house a collection of museums containing works of art from past epochs, including pieces from the Renaissance era. The history of the museum's establishment dates back to 1506, and it was opened in 1771 at the initiative of Pope Julius II.

Annually, around 1.6 million people visit the Vatican Museums to learn about its history and culture. The museum consists of 54 galleries, including the Sistine Chapel. After the museum visit, President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, left a note in the guestbook.
