Tajikistan President Calls for Frugality Amid Global Hardships

in Politics / Tajikistan - by

On the occasion of Mother's Day on March 8th, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan urged the people to be frugal and prevent any extravagant wastefulness. Rahmon highlighted the heavy and tragic problems humanity has faced in recent years, such as wars, bloodshed, droughts, poverty, and hunger.

Citing UN data revealing that populations in dozens of countries are currently experiencing hunger, Rahmon reiterated his call for the country's people to stockpile food for up to two years. Earlier this year, the president had urged this action due to climate change and worsening socio-economic conditions worldwide.

Rahmon emphasized in his January speech that every family in the country should have a reserve of essential food products for a period of up to two years. However, when "Asia-Plus" asked residents and guests of the capital if they could afford to make such large stockpiles considering their income and housing conditions, the majority stated that they lacked the capability. Some mentioned financial constraints, while others simply lacked storage space.
