Tajikistan Government Official Detained for Hosting Illegal Celebration

A government official in Pendzhikent, Tajikistan, H. Murodillozoda, was detained for organizing a celebration for 100 people upon his return from Hajj-Umrah pilgrimage. The country's Anti-Corruption Agency reported that Murodillozoda violated the law on regulating traditions, festivities, and rituals by hosting the event known as "hajj-bino." The official faces a fine as per Article 481 Part 1 of the Administrative Code of the republic, with the case being sent to the Pendzhikent City Court.

President of Tajikistan, on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, met with representatives of the public, scholars, and religious figures. He urged citizens to refrain from excesses in celebrations after returning from Hajj-Umrah, as well as from ostentation and extravagance. The head of state recommended the public to focus on organizing the Hajj ceremony properly, engaging in charitable activities, assisting the needy, orphans, and the poor, and taking care of their families.

In 2023, 63,000 citizens of Tajikistan performed the Hajj and Umrah ceremonies, with an average expenditure of over 1.2 billion somoni.
