A mining farm in the Syrdarya region illegally consumed 34.367 billion Uzbekistani soms worth of electricity, nearly 2.7 million US dollars at the current exchange rate. This information was reported by the press service of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan.
The farm was uncovered during a special operation carried out by the regional units of the State Security Service, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes at the General Prosecutor's Office, the Uzenergo Inspectorate, and the power grid.
Inside the building of a livestock enterprise, 107 mining devices were found, used for cryptocurrency mining.
From April 2022 to March 2024, 39.3 million kWh of electricity were illegally consumed by periodically disconnecting the secondary circuit of the electricity meter, artificially lowering its readings. This amount of electricity is equivalent to the monthly consumption of the population in the Bayaut, Sardobin, Akaltyn, and Gulistan districts of the region.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the officials of the enterprise under Article 169, Part 4, Clause "a" (theft committed on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code.
