Uzbekistan President Enhances Social Protection with New Legislation

in Society / Uzbekistan - by

On March 18, the President of Uzbekistan signed amendments improving social protection, as announced by the Ministry of Justice. Changes to the "Lease Law" now prevent lease termination in case of the tenant becoming disabled.

The "State Pension Provision Law" now extends the period for unclaimed pension payments from 12 to 24 months. Citizens can now apply for pension appointments through state service centers or the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services.

Furthermore, the law sets the minimum pension at no less than the minimum consumer spending and increases pension sizes based on the annual consumer price index growth rates. Amendments to the "Accumulative Pension Provision Law" state that information on citizens' eligibility for state pensions, sent electronically to the National Bank by the Pension Fund, is the basis for receiving accumulative pension payments.

It is worth noting that as of February 1, minimum pension amounts in Uzbekistan were raised by 2.1% for retirees with incomplete work history and for families with disabled dependents. This sum is now aligned with the poverty line indicator.
