The Uchtepinsky District Criminal Court of Tashkent issued a verdict on March 12 in a closed session regarding a man found guilty of a sexual crime against a minor. The press service of the children's ombudsman Surayo Rakhmonova reported that the man was convicted under part "b" of Article 129 (amended last year) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
According to the office of the children's ombudsman, the child was in an elevator with the man when he committed indecent acts without using violence. The new regulations state that after the verdict takes legal effect, no measures to mitigate the punishment can be applied to the convicted individual, who will serve the full sentence.
The children's ombudsman emphasized the importance of the courts in Uzbekistan currently strengthening the protection of children's rights and prioritizing the defense of children's primary interests.
She highlighted the need for a consistent application of this approach and the establishment of a unified judicial practice in the country. "Gazeta.uz" extensively covered the amendments aimed at enhancing the protection system for women and children, which involved a year-long collaboration among representatives of ministries, agencies, non-governmental and international organizations, as well as civil activists, including those from the Nemolchi.uz project.
