Alternativa Film Project Offers Free Educational Programs in Central Asia

in Society / Uzbekistan - by

The international film project Alternativa Film Project is launching a recruitment drive for the free educational programs Alternativa Film Labs in Central Asia.

The program will consist of three film labs: Teen Lab (in Tashkent in the summer), Impact Lab (in Bishkek in the autumn), and Development Lab (in Bukhara, Almaty, and online from June to October).

These programs are designed for filmmakers interested in the development of the film industries in their countries, exploring local social issues, and giving voice to local communities, as stated in the announcement.

The Development Lab includes educational programs in two directions: the producer's section and the script section. The producer's section focuses on developing a project from concept to a full package of documents for seeking international and regional funding. The script section involves the complete development of a full-length feature film script from the initial stage to the final text.

Filmmakers with projects for full-length feature films in the early stages of development are invited to participate in the Development Lab. Authors without projects but with experience in the film industry or creating audiovisual content in literature, journalism, playwriting, videoblogging, or art can also participate in the program and collaborate on projects with colleagues.

Applications from authors over 18 years old from one of the Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan - are considered for participation in the lab. Participants must have a good command of Russian and/or English.

The instructors at Development Lab are film industry practitioners with experience ranging from directors of international festivals to producers, as well as international experts. Among them is a producer from Abbout Productions, director, and instructor at the Cinema Institute Doha Miriam Sassine (Lebanon).

Full information on the requirements for participants and their projects is published on the alternativa.film website.

Applications for participation in Development Lab are open from March 1 to April 28. The results of the selection for the film laboratory Development Lab will be announced on May 16.
