The European Union delegation in Uzbekistan has initiated grant projects aimed at developing civil society in the country. With a total funding of 3.5 million euros, 8 initiatives focusing on expanding the rights and opportunities of civil society, especially women and vulnerable groups, have been awarded.

Ambassador Charlotte Adrian highlighted the importance of prioritizing projects for women, children, and vulnerable groups to amplify their voices, promote inclusive development, and support reform programs in Uzbekistan. The projects, selected through a competition in 2023, are scheduled for implementation between 2024 and 2026.

The grants aim to enhance the capacity of civil society organizations in inclusive development, gender equality, promoting the "green agenda," and increasing gender responsiveness. Projects include strengthening civil society organizations in Samarkand, Namangan, and Tashkent working with women and youth to reduce stigma and discrimination, providing methodologies to support girls and women victims of gender-based violence, and promoting sustainable water resource management.

Through these initiatives, the EU delegation seeks to contribute to pluralism, inclusivity, democracy, and peaceful society in Uzbekistan. The projects involve partnerships with international and local organizations to empower marginalized groups, advance gender equality, and protect human rights and the environment. The EU's support underscores its commitment to fostering a more equitable and sustainable future for Uzbekistan's civil society.
