Uzbek Senator Raises Safety Concerns Over Gas Cylinders on Buses

in Society / Uzbekistan - by

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, Kutbitdin Burkhanov, has sent a senatorial inquiry to the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Achilbay Ramatov, as reported by the upper house of parliament's press service.

The inquiry highlights that a government resolution from October 11, 2017 (No. 815) allowed the installation and operation of LNG-3 gas cylinders on "MAN A 22 CNG" buses produced by the joint venture JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan.

However, the requirements of the government resolution have not been met to date. As a result, over 300 buses equipped with LNG-3 cylinders have been transporting passengers without undergoing the necessary technical testing since 2018, posing a real threat to the lives and health of thousands, if not millions, of citizens.

The senator pointed out incidents of gas cylinder explosions on buses and other vehicles in various regions of the country as examples of the risks posed by non-compliance with safety regulations.

Additionally, another government resolution from January 25, 2023 (No. 28, not publicly available) allowed the purchase of buses with Chinese-manufactured LNG-3 gas cylinders for public service.

Senator Kutbitdin Burkhanov has requested clarification from Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov regarding the reasons for the government's failure to fulfill the tasks outlined in the resolutions.
