The former deputy head of the customs service, Raikymbek Matraimov, is currently in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, as reported by the press center of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).
GKNB has sent a letter to the Azerbaijani side regarding the issue of his detention and possible extradition to Kyrgyzstan.
It has been revealed that Raikymbek Matraimov is connected to members of a transnational criminal group from Azerbaijan who were detained in Kyrgyzstan and were allegedly planning an assassination attempt on the leadership of Kyrgyzstan, as noted by the GKNB.
Raikymbek Matraimov held the position of deputy head of the State Customs Service from 2015 to 2017. Following a change in power in October 2020, he was accused of corruption within the customs service. The total damage caused by Raikymbek Matraimov in just one criminal case amounted to 2 billion soms. He paid them off over two months, mostly in the form of property - a building and apartments. The former customs official admitted his guilt and was fined 260,000 soms by the Pervomaysky District Court of Bishkek.
On January 26, 2024, GKNB declared Raikymbek Matraimov wanted. It was reported that in the autumn, Raikymbek Matraimov may have left Kyrgyzstan for Turkey and then Dubai.
